Visit to Japan - Sep 2016
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong made an official visit to Tokyo, Japan, from 26 to 29 September 2016 in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Japan (SJ50).
During the visit, PM Lee had a Summit Meeting with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who hosted a banquet for PM Lee and his delegation. PM Lee posthumously received the award of the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Paulownia Flowers from PM Abe on behalf of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. This is in recognition of Mr Lee’s contributions to the development of relations between Singapore and Japan over several decades. PM Lee also met other Japanese political and business leaders, and delivered a speech at the Special Session of the Nikkei 22nd International Conference on The Future of Asia. PM Lee also met Singaporeans residing in Japan at a belated National Day reception.
