Visit by DPM Teo Chee Hean to Oman, 12 to 14 October 2018

Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean called on Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers His Highness Sayyid Fahd Bin Mahmoud Al Said on 14 October 2018. The two leaders reaffirmed the warm and longstanding relations between Singapore and Oman. They also had a wide-ranging discussion on issues of common concern and regional developments.

Earlier in the day, DPM Teo was hosted to a working breakfast by Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Sayyid Badr Bin Hamad Bin Hamood Al Busaidi. DPM Teo and Secretary-General Sayyid Badr exchanged views on domestic and regional developments, and agreed that there was potential for Singapore and Oman to do more together. After the breakfast, DPM Teo witnessed the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding, on environmental cooperation between the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources and the Oman Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, and on vocational training between the Institute of Technical Education Education Services and the Oman Ministry of Manpower.

Last evening, DPM Teo was hosted to dinner by Chairman of the Oman Business Forum (OBF) Dr Ali Qassim Al Lawati, joined by many senior Omani business leaders. They had a useful exchange of views on ways to strengthen bilateral trade and investment. Both sides agreed to capitalise on the strong mutual business interest in sectors such as education, as well as information and communications technology.

During the visit, DPM Teo had a gathering with the Singaporean community in Oman, over a reception hosted by the Singapore Consulate-General in Muscat. DPM Teo also received a briefing by the Royal Oman Police on its customs and security project in collaboration with Singapore company, Crimson Logic.

DPM Teo departs for Amman, Jordan today. He is accompanied by Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Masagos Zulkifli, Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Foreign Affairs) (Trade and Industry) Tan Wu Meng, and officials from the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and other agencies.
