DPM and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean visited Madrid, Spain from 11 to 13 March 2018.

 

Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean visited Madrid, Spain from 11 to 13 March 2018.  

DPM Teo had an audience with His Majesty King Felipe VI on 12 March. Both parties reaffirmed the friendly bilateral relations between Singapore and Spain. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic relations. They discussed international economic and security developments, and looked forward to closer bilateral cooperation, especially in our economic sectors.

DPM Teo also met his counterpart, Vice President of the Government and Minister of the Presidency and of the Regional Administrations Soraya Saenz de Santamaria and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Alfonso Maria Dastis Quecedo, who hosted him to lunch. During the meetings, DPM Teo and the Spanish principals reviewed the progress in bilateral relations and discussed initiatives to increase trade and investment as well as people-to-people exchanges between our two countries. DPM Teo welcomed Spain’s interest in Asia, and thanked Spain for their support for the ratification of the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement, which would benefit peoples and businesses from both parties. They also exchanged views on regional developments, including evolving security challenges such as terrorism and cybersecurity.

DPM Teo met officials from the Ministry of Economy, Competitiveness and Industry and business leaders from key Spanish companies over lunch and discussed closer collaboration in innovation, trade and investment. DPM Teo departed for Singapore last evening.
