Statement on Nomination of The Speaker, and Appointment of The Leader of The House and The Government Whip on 28 September 2015.
The Prime Minister intends to nominate Mdm Halimah Yacob to be the Speaker of Parliament when Parliament convenes in January.
He has appointed Ms Grace Fu Hai Yien, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and MP for Yuhua SMC as the Leader of the House. Mr Desmond Lee Ti-Seng, Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development and MP for Jurong GRC, will be the Deputy Leader.
Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, has been appointed the Government Whip. He will be assisted by two Deputies: Ms Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and MP for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, and Mr Sam Tan, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and in the Ministry of Manpower and MP for Radin Mas SMC.
