Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s meeting with PRC President Xi Jinping, 9 November
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who is visiting Beijing, China, to attend the 22nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting, met PRC President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People on 9 November 2014.
Prime Minister Lee congratulated President Xi on China’s successful chairmanship of APEC over the course of the year, and its leadership in advancing regional economic integration in the Asia-Pacific. Prime Minister Lee and President Xi expressed satisfaction with the broad and deep bilateral relationship, and looked forward to celebrating the 25th anniversary of Singapore-China diplomatic relations in 2015. Prime Minister Lee welcomed President Xi’s State Visit to Singapore next year, while President Xi welcomed President Tony Tan Keng Yam to make a reciprocal State Visit to China. The leaders also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation.
Prime Minister Lee and President Xi also exchanged views on the situation in Hong Kong as well as regional and international developments.
Prime Minister Lee is accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Trade and Industry. While in Beijing, Prime Minister Lee will have bilateral meetings with other APEC Leaders.
