MFA Press Statement: Visit by United States Congressional Delegation led by Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, Representative Ed Royce, 15 to 17 August 2013
A United States Congressional delegation from the House of Representatives, comprising Representative Ed Royce (Republican-California), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC) and Member of the House Financial Services Committee, and Representative David Cicilline (Democrat-Rhode Island), Member of the HFAC and the House Budget Committee, called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong earlier today.
During the meeting, PM Lee expressed Singapore’s support for the US’ renewed emphasis on Asia and welcomed the US’ commitment to deepen its engagement of the Asia-Pacific region. PM Lee and the Congressmen affirmed the excellent bilateral relations between Singapore and the US, and also exchanged views on a wide range of issues, including international and regional developments.
In addition to the call on PM Lee, the Congressional delegation called on Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang and Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen on 15 August 2013. The delegation was also hosted to lunch by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam.
The delegation is visiting Singapore from 15 to 17 August 2013 and will also be meeting Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Grace Fu tomorrow, 16 August 2013.
