MFA Press Statement: Official visit to Singapore by the Vice President of the United States of America, Joseph R Biden, 25-27 July 2013

Vice President of the United States of America Joseph R Biden will visit Singapore from 25 to 27 July 2013. He will be accompanied by his wife Dr Jill Biden and senior officials from the Vice President’s Office, National Security Council and Department of State. Vice President Biden will meet with President Tony Tan Keng Yam, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew. Prime Minister Lee will also host Vice President Biden to a working dinner involving other Cabinet Ministers and the Speaker of Parliament.

As part of the visit, Vice President Biden and Dr Jill Biden, accompanied by Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Grace Fu, and Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Law and Ministry of Education Indranee Rajah, will attend a ceremony at the National Orchid Garden where a new orchid hybrid, the Dendrobium Joe and Jill Biden, will be named in honour of Vice President Biden and Dr Jill Biden.

On 27 July 2013, Vice President Biden will visit the Pratt & Whitney aircraft engine overhaul facility. Vice President Biden will then visit the US Littoral Combat Ship, USS Freedom, at the Changi Naval Base.
