MFA Press Statement: Congratulatory message from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China

Please accept my warmest congratulations on your appointment as the President of the People’s Republic of China.

You are taking over at a critical juncture of China’s development. China has come a long way in a short time, and needs to sustain its progress while managing its domestic and external challenges. I am confident that, under your leadership, China will continue to grow and prosper. This will improve the lives of the Chinese people and also benefit the wider region.

Singapore and China enjoy excellent relations, underpinned by frequent high-level exchanges, close people-to-people links and robust cooperation across a wide range of areas such as economics, education, social management, and food safety. I recall fondly your visit to Singapore in November 2010 and our discussions on bilateral ties. I look forward to working with you to take our bilateral relations to new heights.
