Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship Visit Of His Excellency Pehin Dato Haji Abdul Rahman Bin Haji Ibrahim Second Finance Minister At The Prime Minister’s Office, Negara Brunei Darussalam 18 To 25 May 2014

          His Excellency Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Second Finance Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Negara Brunei Darussalam, will visit Singapore as the 43rd Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellow (LKYEF) from 18 to 25 May 2014.  Pehin Rahman is the fourth Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellow from Brunei.  Pehin Rahman will be accompanied by officials from the Bruneian Ministry of Finance and Prime Minister’s Office.

           Pehin Rahman has had a long and distinguished career, holding senior positions in various economic agencies before being appointed the Second Minister of Finance in 2005.

           Pehin Rahman will meet PM Lee Hsien Loong, DPM Teo Chee Hean, DPM Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister (Law) (Foreign Affairs) K Shanmugam, Minister (Education) Heng Swee Keat, Minister (Social and Family Development) Chan Chun Sing, Senior Minister of State (Finance) (Transport) Josephine Teo, Minister of State (National Development) (Defence) Maliki Osman, and Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Manpower) Hawazi Daipi.  Pehin Rahman will also meet Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Temasek Holdings Ho Ching, GIC Chief Economist Dr Leslie Teo, and Chief Executive Officer of Keppel Corporation Loh Chin Hua, amongst others.  Pehin Rahman will be visiting a wide range of agencies in Singapore, including the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Trade & Industry, Ministry of Manpower, Ministry of National Development, the Housing & Development Board, Singapore Customs, and the Public Service Division.  Pehin Rahman will also be visiting the one-north business park and the Social Service Office at Choa Chu Kang.  Mr Eddie Teo, Chairman of the LKYEF, will host a welcome dinner for Pehin Rahman.

           The visit comes on the back of a successful State Visit in April 2014 by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and underscores the excellent state of Singapore-Brunei bilateral relations.  Singapore and Brunei have regular exchanges on high-level visits, and work closely bilaterally and in regional and international fora.  Such visits reaffirm the warm and long-standing ties between our nations.

           Established in 1991, the LKYEF programme invites outstanding individuals for high-level exchange visits to Singapore.  The Fellows are chosen on the basis of their proven track record or extraordinary potential to contribute to the development of their nations, as well as promote international understanding and goodwill.
