SM Tharman Shanmugaratnam to visit UAE, Jordan and Israel (May 2023)

Senior Minister (SM) and Coordinating Minister for Social Policies Tharman Shanmugaratnam will make a working visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Jordan, and Israel from 11 to 19 May 2023. His visit will include meeting political leaders in the UAE and Jordan, and giving talks on global financial reforms and national development. He will also meet tech entrepreneurs and leading businesses in the three countries involved in transforming water management, in his capacity as Co-Chair of the Global Commission on the Economics of Water.

In Abu Dhabi, UAE, SM Tharman will meet with senior leaders on bilateral cooperation issues, speak at the UAE Climate Tech Conference being convened in the run up to COP28, and meet climate tech entrepreneurs and senior officials.

In Amman, Jordan, SM Tharman will meet political leaders, speak at the Shoman Foundation on approaches to reform global finance for development and ecological security, and meet water tech entrepreneurs.

In Israel, SM Tharman will visit Tel Aviv University, where he will also speak at an annual economic symposium. He will also visit Technion, Hebrew University and leading businesses in the water sector to discuss solutions to the global water crisis and its links to food security and climate change.

SM Tharman will be accompanied by officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Public Utilities Board.
