SM Tharman Shanmugaratnam to visit New York (Sep 2019)

Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam will visit New York from 23 to 26 September 2019.

Senior Minister Tharman will co-chair the inaugural meeting of the Global Education Forum (GEF) on 24 September. The other co-chairs of the GEF are Gordon Brown in his capacity as UN Special Envoy for Global Education, Graça Machel, former Minister for Education and Culture in Mozambique, and UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay. The GEF, established under the auspices of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, aims to spur global cooperation and reforms to bridge major gaps in education in the developing world, in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Senior Minister Tharman will also deliver a keynote address at the High-Level Dialogue on Financing for Development on 26 September, organised by the UN General Assembly as part of the UN High-Level Week.

Senior Minister Tharman will also be visiting several educational institutions and meeting with business leaders.
