Meeting Between DPM Heng Swee Keat and Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi Yoshimasa

Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat met Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi Yoshimasa in Tokyo on 7 October 2024.

 

Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Research Foundation Heng Swee Keat met Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi Yoshimasa in Tokyo on 7 October 2024. DPM Heng congratulated Mr Hayashi on his reappointment as Chief Cabinet Secretary earlier this month.

DPM Heng and CCS Hayashi reaffirmed the strong and longstanding relations between Singapore and Japan. Both countries share common interests and challenges. They had a good discussion on deepening and expanding the economic and innovation cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the areas of sustainability, artificial intelligence, space technologies and microelectronics. They also exchanged views on ways to tackle the common challenges brought upon by a rapidly ageing population.

DPM Heng and CCS Hayashi expressed their commitment to enhancing Singapore-Japan ties, and looked forward to commemorating the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations in 2026.
