Appointment of Auditor-General (Jan 2025)

Ms Goh Soon Poh will retire as Auditor-General on 8 February 2025 upon completion of her term of appointment. Mr Ng Wai Choong will be appointed Auditor-General on the same date.

 

Ms Goh Soon Poh will retire as Auditor-General on 8 February 2025 upon completion of her term of appointment. Mr Ng Wai Choong will be appointed Auditor-General on the same date. Mr Ng is currently Commissioner of Inland Revenue and Chief Executive Officer of the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, Ministry of Finance, and he will retire from the Civil Service on 7 February 2025.

Ms Goh Soon Poh

Ms Goh Soon Poh, 62, has contributed 40 years of dedicated service in the Singapore public sector, including the last six years as Auditor-General.

Ms Goh studied Economics at Cambridge University on an Overseas Merit Scholarship. She started her public service career in 1984. Before her appointment as Auditor-General, she held senior management positions in various ministries including the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, Public Service Division, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Prime Minister’s Office.

In February 2019, Ms Goh was appointed Auditor-General. Under her leadership, AGO sharpened its audit strategy and harnessed the use of data and technology to strengthen the quality of audit. AGO also enhanced its communication and dialogue with public sector agencies to work together to enhance public accountability and strengthen financial governance in the public sector.

Ms Goh restructured the Auditing Scheme, uplifted the professional development of its auditors and introduced initiatives to ensure that AGO continued to attract and retain its talent. AGO launched a Masters Scholarship for its auditors and set in place secondments and exchanges with public and private organisations. A Strategic Workforce Plan was also implemented to ensure that AGO stays relevant and prepared for the future.

Ms Goh was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2000 and the Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 2015.

Head, Civil Service, Mr Leo Yip extended his appreciation to Ms Goh for her 40 years of significant contribution to public service and her six years of leadership in the Auditor-General’s Office.

Mr Ng Wai Choong

Mr Ng Wai Choong, 59, has contributed 35 years of dedicated service in the public sector.

Mr Ng studied Economics at the University of Tokyo on a Monbukagakusho Scholarship. He started his career in the Administrative Service in 1991 and took on various appointments in the Ministry of Finance (MOF), Ministry of National Development and Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI). He was appointed Deputy Secretary (Industry), MTI from 2004 to 2007 and served concurrently as Chief Executive of Competition Commission of Singapore from 2005 to 2006. In 2007, he was appointed Deputy Secretary (Policy), MOF. He took on the role of Chief Executive, Energy Market Authority in 2015. Since 2018, he has been serving as Commissioner of Inland Revenue and Chief Executive Officer of the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore.

Mr Ng was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2006 and the Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 2020.
