Visit to Japan - Dec 2023
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong made a working visit to Tokyo, Japan from 15 to 18 December 2023 and attended the Commemorative Summit for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation.
At the Commemorative Summit, ASEAN and Japan discussed ways to deepen and broaden the ASEAN-Japan Dialogue Partnership, including in emerging areas such as the digital and green economies. The Leaders had discussions on regional and global issues of mutual concern.
In addition to the Commemorative Summit, PM Lee had bilateral meetings with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and caught up with former Japan Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide, as well as Komeito Chief Representative Yamaguchi Natsuo. They reaffirmed the excellent state of Singapore-Japan relations and exchanged views on developments in the region and beyond.
PM Lee joined leaders from ASEAN, Australia and Japan in the inaugural Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Leaders’ Meeting where they discussed the challenges and opportunities in their respective decarbonisation journeys, and discussed how they could collaborate to transition more smoothly towards a low-carbon future. PM Lee reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to its 2050 net-zero ambition, and explained how Singapore is supporting decarbonisation in Asia and beyond.
PM Lee also had a joint audience with His Majesty Emperor Naruhito and Her Majesty Empress Masako.
