Visit to New York - Sep 2019
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was in New York from 21 to 27 September 2019 for a working visit.
During the visit, Prime Minister Lee met President of the United States of America Donald J Trump. Prime Minister Lee received the World Statesman Award at the 54th Annual Appeal of Conscience Foundation Awards Dinner and delivered Singapore’s national statement at the General Debate of the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Prime Minister Lee also met Federated States of Micronesia President David W. Panuelo, Palau President Thomas Remengesau Jr., Nauru President Lionel Aingimea, and Samoa PM Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, His Serene Highness Hereditary Prince Alois, Crown Prince of the Principality of Liechtenstein, Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Bhutanese PM Dr Lotay Tshering. Prime Minister Lee also met industry and financial sector leaders, as well as other prominent US personalities, and attended a reception with overseas Singaporeans.
Prime Minister Lee headed Singapore’s delegation to the 74th UNGA, and attended a series of UN meetings, including the Secretary-General’s Climate Action Summit. Prime Minister Lee also hosted a reception for members of the Forum of Small States, an informal grouping of more than 100 small countries that was launched by Singapore in 1992.
Prime Minister Lee was accompanied by Mrs Lee, Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, and officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Communications and Information, the Ministry of Defence, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
