Visit to Japan - May 2022
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was on a working visit to Tokyo, Japan, from 24 to 27 May 2022 in conjunction with the 27th International Conference on the Future of Asia organised by Nikkei Inc. The theme of the conference was “Redefining Asia's role in a divided world”, where PM delivered a keynote speech.
During the visit, PM Lee met Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio. They reaffirmed Singapore and Japan’s longstanding and close partnership. Both leaders also discussed ways that Singapore and Japan can deepen cooperation, including in the digital economy and green economy. They welcomed new areas of cooperation, including the exchange of the Memorandum of Cooperation between GovTech and Digital Agency of Japan on digital government transformation, the exchange of the Memorandum of Cooperation between Enterprise Singapore and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) on startup and innovation cooperation and the launch of the Japan-Singapore Economic Dialogue (JSED).
PM Lee had separate meetings with other Japanese political and business leaders, as well as with Malaysian PM Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
