Statement from the Prime Minister's Office - Appointment of Judicial Commissioners of the High Court

      The President of the Republic of Singapore, acting in his discretion, and in concurrence with the advice of the Prime Minister will appoint Mr Tan Siong Thye and Mr Lee Kim Shin as Judicial Commissioners of the High Court under Article 94(4) of the Constitution for a term of one year with effect from 1 October 2013 and 2 January 2014 respectively.

2    Mr Tan Siong Thye, who has considerable and varied legal experience, was the Chief District Judge of the Subordinate Courts. He obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Singapore and later, a Master of Law (With Merit) from the University of London, United Kingdom.

3    Mr Lee Kim Shin, who specialises in corporate and commercial law, is the Managing Partner of Allen & Gledhill LLP, Singapore. He obtained a Bachelor of Laws, LLB, from the National University of Singapore.

4    With the appointments of Mr Tan Siong Thye and Mr Lee Kim Shin, the Supreme Court will have a total of 15 Judges (including the Chief Justice) and five Judicial Commissioners.
